Grace Hough is a recent graduate of Texas A&M University in the School of Performance, Visualization, & Fine Arts with distinction as an Undergraduate Research Scholar (2020). She earned a Bachelor of Science majoring in Visualization with a specialty in Animation and minors in Creative Writing and Fine Arts. In 2022 she was accepted as Junior Resident Fellow with the Center of Khmer Studies in Siem Reap, Cambodia, where she and a cohort of five other international students studied special topics of their choice with six weeks of immersion in Cambodian culture and daily life.
Her research interests and graduating capstone project focused on Southeast Asian representation in Western Animation and hybrid stop-motion set techniques (project continued after graduation and is still in-progress). Starting in 2019, she began researching Cambodian/Khmer folklore and the relationship between generational trauma and storytelling. Inspired by her mother’s survival as a teenager during the Khmer Rouge Regime in Cambodia from 1975-1979, Grace hopes to shed light on the urgency of documentation and preservation with an an aging population at risk of being lost in a Western-dominated global exchange of stories.
